The American has a history of gender focused lawsuits

A self-identifying trans woman is suing the City of New York for more than $22,000,000 after being placed in a male prison.

Ali Miles, who also goes by Dylan Miles, was born a biological male but is in "the process of transitioning into a woman".

The American was held at the George R. Vierno Center on Rikers Island from June to July 2022 while awaiting transfer to Arizona to face trial on charges of domestic violence.

The lawsuit claims that Miles was placed in the male detention centre despite a court order stating they should be placed in a female unit.

"As Miles approached the inside of the building, Miles realised it was a male jail which caused shock, panic and fright to Miles," legal documents claim.

"Miles requested and pleaded … that as an LGBTQIA+ individual who was transgendered, she required and needed an accommodation, and that she should not be placed in a male population jail."

Miles claims that despite asking for a change in accommodation a staff member said: "We don't do the trans thing here."

The court filing adds that the self-identifying woman faced discrimination, assault, and human rights violations while in the facility.

It says that upon arrival a strip search was carreid out by a male guard rather than a female one.

At the subsequent trial in Arizona, Miles was convicted of aggravated harassment, disorderly conduct, harassment, threatening or intimidating, and false reporting to a law enforcement agency.

A sentence was handed down for 312 days in jail and three years supervised probation.

Miles has filed a number of lawsuits over the years.

Legal claims have previously been filed against a yoga studio, a tourism company, Planet Fitness, Bagel Point, and New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Each case claimed that Miles had faced gender discrimination. All of the past cases were dismissed.

The lawsuit against the City of New York is set to be heard on February 22.
